Demons to play in the Czech Republic

The Cardiff Demons will travel to Plzen in the Czech Republic to face HC Panasonic on Saturday 20th February 2010.  The HC Panasonic team is made up entirely of Panasonic employees from the the company's Czech-based TV factory.

The Demons will travel to Plzen on 19th February where they will join the Panasonic team for a training session before facing them in a challenge match the following day.

Plzen is an historic city in western Bohemia, about 90km from the Czech capital Prague.  The city is known worldwide for its Pilsener beer and is the home-town of NHL veteren Martin Straka.

Now retired from the NHL, Straka has returned to Plzen and now plays for HC Plzen in the Czech Extraliga.

August 2009 - Snowdon Climb

**UPDATE**
The summit was reached as planned in 3 hours, with the round trip taking just over 6 hours...in driving rain and winds gusting to 60mph!! There were a number of very surprised climbers turning corners in the path to see a bunch of guys in hockey kit climbing up!

Thanks to everyone for their support, and for those visiting this page that have yet to donate, it's not too late!!  The total amount raised is now almost £600!  We just need a tiny bit more!
**UPDATE**

On the weekend of 22nd & 23rd August 2009 a number of the Cardiff Demons will be climbing Snowdon (in full hockey kit minus skates) to raise money for The Anthony Nolan Trust.

December 2008 - Christmas Spirit

The Cardiff Bay arena played host to a game of hockey with a twist on the weekend leading up to Christmas. Contrary to the seasonal rivalry in Cardiff for these two teams, it was forgotten and the outcome was an extremely enjoyable encounter, whereby the Cardiff Bay Lightning and Cardiff Demons collaborated for a session of hockey with a difference. Both teams showing their great friendship and mutual appreciation for the game by mixing teams and scrimmaging a free flowing game.

The outcome somewhat fitting for the occasion, a 5-5 draw at the end of regulation time. One slice of competitive nature from all the guys…a penalty shootout was the decider for the night. After a long list of attempts and great saves from Jason Bailey, it was Rob Smith who slotted home the winner for Team White.

Several comments were flying around that night, but none more prevalent than

“It’s great to play with a good bunch of guys and learn from their experience” – Demons

“This is what it’s all about, to enjoy the game with a team we get on great with” – Teefa

An enjoyable and successful night had by all…..and may that continue!

Happy Christmas to everyone.

November 2008 - Miracles Really Do Happen

This is a picture of the delightful 15 year old Charlotte Hollands. She has recently suffered such a traumatic and distressful time for anybody let alone a young lady in her youth. She was diagnosed with a very serious and rare genetic illness [Schwachman - Diamond syndrome].  The disease had progressed rapidly to the point where she urgently needed a life saving bone marrow transplant before the disease progressed into a more serious condition. She has recently been into hospital to undergo chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant to help her get back to her normal happy and healthy young life.

Luckily enough, in a very short space of time, a bone marrow donor was found in Germany with a 100% match and Charlotte had the transplant that she so desperatly needed. She has undergone weeks of unpleasant treatment and is now finally well on the road to recovery although there is still a very long way to go.

Several fund raising attempts have been made to raise money so that Charlotte, who has spent a long spell in isolation, was able to take things with her into hospital which had to be brand new due to the risk of infection. The Cardiff devils very kindly donated £250 to Charlottes family to help them buy personal items to make her stay as comfortable and happy as they could during this stressful time.

When Charlotte heard of the generosity of the Cardiff Devils donation she couldnt believe how much people were doing for her. Her personal response goes to show how unselfish and mature she is for such a young lady. She said that she didn't want all of the money raised to be used for her but for half of it to be used by LATCH for research to help to make her one wish come true and that is to find a cure for her illness.

I think it is safe to say that the help and support shown by everybody is really well deserved for a girl so special.

All of us at the Demons and within the Devils Community Foundation wish her a speedy recovery and our best wishes and support to her dad Andrew and family.

Watch this space as the Demons team have one final surprise for Charlotte.

September 2008 - Congratulations to ex-Demons' Player James Wanmer

James Wanmer, formally of the Cardiff Demons, played his first game for the ENL Cardiff Devils, finishing the game with a single assist. James played well and looks set to continue to move up the ranks. If not for the Goal-tender and some last ditch defending from the Oxford defence, James could quite easily have scored. Best wishes go out to James as he continues his journey through hockey, the Demons are all behind you!

20 July 2008 - winning weekend continues...

19 July 2008 - Demons first win!!!

The Cardiff Demons notched up their first victory away against the Altrincham Aardvarx on Saturday 19th July.  The team won 4-1 at the Blackburn arena in a game that finished in the early hours of Sunday morning.

March 2008 - Demons raise £600 for Sport Relief *

The Cardiff Demons would like to say a big "thank you" to all those who sponsored the team.  A good time was had by all and the team managed to complete the mile in just under 15 minutes, dressed in full kit.

Goaltender Mark 'Mumbles' Johncock set the pace as the team of ten made their way round the Cardiff Bay course.  As the event wore on Mumbles grew weary and, as usual, was carried by the defencemen (literally).

After the event the team put in a public appearance in the bar at Hollywood Bowl.  Within three minutes the bar was cleared, due largely to the smell.

That's hockey.

*Final figure to be confirmed
